GARTH'S CORNER: Oster Joining Murray In Buffalo? - garth
Have you learned nothing from your near neighbours to the north? When you throw money at UFAs you don't solve the problem, you give yourself another one. A MUCH smarter option is the remain patient, wait for the kids to develop, and then sign only the UFAs that you NEED to put you over the top... |

I think the Sabres will remain on the bottom of the league for at least one more year. We have 3 number one picks over the next 2 years. 2014, on paper, will be a weak draft. 2015 is supposed to be a very strong draft, comparing to the 2003 draft. With the likes of Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel coming out, it would be foolish to try to win next year. I believe the Sabres, while they would never admit it, are on track to build like the Kings, Black Hawks, and Penguins, with high draft picks. Also, 2015 is going to be a banner year for free agents. Pat Kane leading the way. With high end draft picks and strong free agents, Buffalo will be a place people want to play. Just be patient. Do you really want to rebuild like the Leafs? Eight or 9 years of no playoffs. "Quick fixes" here and there and have THAT team? The future looks bright for the Sabres and I think they know exactly how to do it. Just remember, money is no object anymore. |

I think Leino and Stafford will be here next year. All part of the Master plan. Why buy them out next year, when you are not trying to win. 2015 Stafford is done and then you buy out Lame O. Will he play more than 40 games anyway? |

This is the final season in which you can use the compliance buyout |

I never understood the Ville hatred. He is over paid, so what? We are not in cap trouble because of him. Terry can afford it. Of all the things to complain about on this team, he seems to me the least of their problems. |

I'm not sure they will buy out either one. The Sabres are about 30 million under the cap minimum for next year. |

I completely agree with 100%!! Regardless of what anyone says, and I'm not saying he is defiantly coming to Buffalo...I bet Buffalo will throw a boat load to Pat Kane...I doubt he accepts it unless, somehow Chicago calapses by 2015. But I doubt that will happen. |

Yeah, I think that people were more worried about it before, but since going into full rebuild mode it doesn't make that much of a difference... |

He's the highest paid forward, but that pay figure is $4.5 million. Only four other teams are anywhere near that point. It's not the norm at all. |

I bet they keep Devine till the end of the year after the draft just because he is a great draft guy and I bet they don't want him to take their draft info to another team - Buffalo_Boy
They could certainly do that. They might keep Devine for the draft/scouting and hire Oster for contract negotiations of pending free agents and cap purposes, considering his background. |

This could all happen in the next 18 months. Sam Reinhart or Aaron Ekblad this year. McDavid or Eichel next year and a Pat Kane signing. Sure will beat s 50 million dollar Phaneuf signing. |

We have our issues, but not too far off from where we need to be... just a couple of complimentary pieces...and a new coach |

Having someone with good relationships with players is sure not a bad thing. Hopefully they could get some decent UFAs to sign here rather than the Ville Leinos they've overpaid for lately... |
